Origin Notes

The coffee industry in Nicaragua has undergone periods of turmoil; political and environmental, which has hindered the development of the speciality coffee sector. However Nicaragua has now begun to produce some very desirable coffees.

The Nueva Segovia is heralded as Nicaragua's premier growing region, a mountainous region close to the Honduran border. It is here where the Santa Maria de Lourdes farm is situated. The Farmer Octavia Peralta began to restore coffee production to this area in 1994, after the land had been used as war land during the Sandhinista uprising.
