Description

Ana & Martha Sotomayor own Las Hortensias Farm, named after the hydrangea flowers growing on the land. The farm is small spanning nearly 3 ha and sits at an altitude of 1300m, in the Mozonte region of Nicaragua. Farm management takes an eco-friendly approach, nurturing the coffee plants to ensure they flourish. A combination of shade management, provided by fruit trees and bananas, alongside using organic and synthetic fertilizers contribute to a healthy crop of coffee cherries, which are manually harvested.

Las Hortensias farm is part of a wider co-operative that supports social and environmental initiatives. Farmers are paid according to the quality of their coffee. Las Hortensias exemplifies a commitment to sustainable coffee farming, quality production, and community support, ensuring a prosperous future for Nicaraguan coffee.

Like all our coffee at Duffin’s, it is a Direct and Fair Trade product; we buy it well above the World Trade and Seasonally Agreed price to ensure that the produces get a guaranteed annual income, regardless of price fluctuations.
